Entry 7: Yeah, sorry

Yeah, I haven't posted in a LONG time and I'm sorry about that. Life is busy.

Love Song Spotlight:
As Time Goes By- from Casablanca
This song would be an amazing love song even if it wasn't the only reminder of Rick and Ilsa's Paris.

Eliminations(It's Not You, It's Me):
1. God Only Knows- The Beach Boys
Yeah, eventually this song just gets tiring.

2. Moon River- Henry Mancini
I'm not gonna lie, I never understood the lyrics.

3. Some Surprise- Gary Lightbody and Lisa Hannigan
The first half of the song is really sweet and really beautiful and then they just repeat it. It's a fantastic half a song.

4. Maps- The Rogue Wave(originally by The Yeah Yeah Yeahs)
I can only feel so much love for Cartography.

5. Our Time Now- Plain White Ts
Can't understand a word the guy says.

Day 6: I Can't Do Everything

Love Song Spotlight:
Romeo and Juliet -Dire Straits
Words can't express the beauty this song contains. This song will make it to the final five, if it doesn't win the competition. Mark Knopfler is a god.
"I can't do everything, but I'd do anything for you".

Eliminations (It's not you, it's me)
1. There Is -Boxcar Racer
This is another case of the lead singers voice bothering me to no end. The lyrics are what got it this far.

2. Reach For The Sun -The Polyphonic Spree
This song is fine, it's just not my favorite love song. It may, however, be my favorite song by a 20+ member band

3. The Boys of Summer -The Ataris(originally by Don Henley)
I don't really care that you saw a Dead Head/Black Flag sticker on a cadillac

4. Wherever You Will Go -The Calling
Late 90's sucked

5. Anyone Else But You -The Moldy Peaches
It brings "minimalist" to a whole new level. People are probably going to hate me for eliminating this one.

Day 5: I know, day four went missing.

Ok, I'm sorry I didn't post yesterday, so today will feature a double helping of eliminations. What can I say? College life.

Love Song Spotlight:
Thunder Road -Bruce Springsteen
Great song, great lyrics. "I've got this guitar and I've learned how to make it talk." That line alone makes this song fantastic.

Eliminations(It's Not You, It's Me):

1. Empire State -Josh Joplin
This song's great and all, but I only really feels like it applies to me when I'm in New York State.

2. Wouldn't It Be Nice -The Beach Boys
Waiting isn't exactly something people do these days.

3. Have It All -Jeremy Kay
This song just gets boring after a while.

4. Ocean Avenue -Yellowcard
Like this song but I'm not an emo kid from 2003.

5. The Way I Am -Ingrid Michaelson
The old navy commercial killed it.

6. A Thousand Miles -Vanessa Carlton
I tried to keep this song on here for as long as possible, for humor reasons I guess, but it really just isn't all that good.

7. Young Folks -Peter Bjorn and John
Too much god damn whistling.

8. Anthem of Our Discovery -Stephen Kellogg and The Sixers
Meh, this song loses something after a while.

9. Closer -Travis
His voice bugs me.

10. Forever Young -So They Say(originally by Rod Stewart)
This song is really kinda overrated.

Day 3: Do these all have to have titles?

Love Song Spotlight:
Some Surprise -Gary Lightbody & Lisa Hannigan
This song's title says it all. It's a complete surprise. I hear "Gary Lightbody" and I assume that it's going to be the common sad song that Snow Patrol does so well. This song though is immensely positive while remaining mildly self-deprecating. It sweeps you up quicker than most love songs.

Eliminations(It's Not You, It's Me):

1. Your Body Is A Wonderland -John Mayer
I'm sorry but I feel like this song is just John Mayer rubbing it in everyone's face that he can get insanely hot women to fuck him senseless.

2. Secret Valentine -We The Kings
I'm not a 12-year old girl.

3. Open Arms -Journey
I'm sorry, I want rock songs from Journey, not emotion. Frankly all I really want from Journey is "Anyway You Want It" and "Don't Stop Believing".

4. Tiny Dancer -Elton John
I'm eliminating this song on the off chance that this song actually is about his penis like the rumors say.

5. First Time -Lifehouse
It was in a car commercial, enough said.

Alright, more to come tomorrow

Day 2: The first round of Eliminations

Love songs are tricky, they either run the gamete from sickeningly sweet to beautiful to emo to just plain boring. I think they're very personal, that's why this is a search for "my favorite" and not "the best". "The best love song" would be completely subjective.

Love Song Spotlight:
Fuck You -Garfunkel and Oates
This song is like the movie Juno all rolled up into 1:17. It's sweet, cute, a little off kilter, it's great. "Because like can lead to like like and like like can lead to love. Sure as the stars above I'd really like to fuck you."

Also, ukulele makes everything just a bit cuter.

Eliminations(It's Not You, It's Me):

1. Who You Are -Cary Brothers
I like Cary Brothers, he's a great artist, I just don't feel like this song is my favorite love song. I'm not even entirely sure that it is a love song. So it's gonna have to go.

2. Inside of You -Infant Sorrow
This song was a funny pick and that's it's problem.

3. Won't Go Home Without You -Maroon 5
This song is being eliminated solely for it's premise because I just don't believe Adam Levine being that determined to win a girl back.

4. Elephant Love Medley -Ewan McGregor & Nicole Kidman
This song probably should've been left out of the list solely because it's all the greatest love songs in one. It's got unfair advantage.

5. I'm Yours -Jason Mraz
I don't know, something about the music video tainted this song for me. I think it's because Mraz looks way too much like a bro throughout the whole video.

All right, first eliminations. See you all tomorrow!

The Setup

My name is Ross Berman. Recently I was faced with a very hard question, "What is your favorite love song?" I realized that I had no idea how to answer that. Well, I could answer that but it'd involve a "[#]-way tie between [song names here]" situation.

So, I decided that I would comb through my entire iTunes library, all 2615 songs, and picked out my 101 favorite love songs. Yes, I do indeed have 101 favorite love songs. Over the next three weeks, I will post once a day. Every post will contain my thoughts about where I am in my search. Also, every day I will eliminate 5 songs, until there is only one left. Day one will be the list of the songs and then everyday after that, songs will go bye bye.

Sound good?

This oughta be fun.
